INDIAN INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IIIT), MANIPUR
To address the increasing skill challenges of the Indian Information Technology (IT) Industry, impart international level Information Technology (IT) Education in the State and to develop Manipur as a preferred destination for Information Technology related manpower and industry, the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Manipur was established by the Government of Manipur under the guidelines of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, with Manipur IT SeZ Project Development Company Ltd. (MIPDCO) and Manipur Development Society (MDS) as the Industry partners.
The Institute was approved to be established at Mayangkhang Ningthoupham Village, Senapati District with its temporary campus at Mantripukhri, Imphal by the Manipur State Cabinet and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
A Total of 150 Acres of land was acquired by the State Government in Mayangkhang, Ningthoupham Village, Senapati District out of which 50 Acres has been reserved for various utilities required in the campus like Electricity Substation, Police Station, Central School, Medical Dispensary, etc. The land has been handed over to IIIT Manipur for construction of the Permanent Campus of IIIT Manipur at Mayangkhang, Ningthoupham Village, Senapati.
The Institute at present is being mentored by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati with Professor Amarendra Kumar Das from IIT-Guwahati being appointed as the Interim Director for IIIT-Manipur.
The 1st Academic Session of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Manipur commenced from July, 2015 from its temporary campus located at Mantripukhri, Imphal with the following 2 (two) courses :-
- B-Tech in (Computer Science & Engineering)
- B-Tech in (Electronics & Communication Engineering)
A total of 3 (three) Academic Sessions has commenced till date with 130 students enrolled so far in IIIT Manipur. The Academic Session of 2018-2019 (4th Batch) will commence from July-August, 2018 and it is anticipated that 75 or more students will be enrolled in the upcoming Academic Session of 2018-2019.
